A new holiday for 2004 and a chance to discover the magical landscape of rural Auvergne. This holiday is a grand tour of the region for cyclists who like to cover slightly longer distances, travelling over 50km including some climbing each day. Visit the spectacular Garabit viaduct and the spa towns of Vic sur Cère and Chaudes Aigues. Explore Aurillac, the bustling departmental capital and the wide open spaces of the Monts du Cantal.

Day 1: Arrive at St Flour
On arrival at the railway station, you will be met by our representative who will take you to our base hotel. You stay in the centre of St Flour, perfect for exploring the narrow lanes of this charming town.

Day 2: St Flour to Chaudes Aigues
68 kms
Start your holiday with a day on tracks and small roads through Ruynes en Margeride. Visit the spectacular Garabit viaduct and have lunch overlooking the Truyère river on your way to historic Chaudes Aigues, famous for its hot water springs.
Day 3: Chaudes Aigues
A chance to explore the plateau on a circular route through green fields, woodland and lush green valleys, rich in wild flowers. Cycle to the Gorges du Bès and leave your bikes awhile to hike down into the gorge.

Day 4: Chaudes Aigues to Pont La Vieille
64 kms
A lovely cycle that broadly follows meanders of the Truyère river. A chance to see the amazing range of birds and mammals that live in the area. A warm welcome awaits you in the small auberge in Pont La Vieille.

Day 5: Pont La Vielle
A cycle at higher altitude in the high valleys and clear air of the Monts du Cantal. A day of magnificent views and wide-open countryside with energetic climbs over passes and along valleys to the foothills of the highest peaks of the region.

Day 6: Pont La Vielle - Vic sur Cère
67 kms
The morning's cycle is over the beautiful, unspoilt and ancient landscape of this quiet corner of Auvergne on your way to bustling Aurillac, the departmental capital. In the afternoon explore the old town and then visit the Museum of Volcanoes.

Day 7: Vic sur Cère
A choice of activities today. Explore by bike or by train or alternatively try one of the walks we recommend around the area. There are walks to suit all abilities if you choose a day off from cycling.

Day 8: Vic sur Cère - St Flour
67 kms
An excellent day's cycle on small roads beside the Cère valley through Auvernat villages, past the ski-station of Le Lioran. Perhaps take the cable car to the summit of the Plomb du Cantal. The final leg of your tour crosses the high plateau of the planèze and gently descends to St Flour.

Day 9: Leave for Home
After breakfast, our representative will take you to the railway station for your journey home.
