grand tour through the vineyards to Beaune and beyond. The countryside
changes as you cycle through the flood plains of the Saône
to the vine-covered hills of the Côte Challonaise. Passing
through Beaune, Meursault, Mercurey and Poligny-Montrachet this
holiday takes you "beyond the vineyards" to the pretty
hill-top villages deep in the heart of Burgundy. Return to your
base hotel over the Col de Brançion with its well-preserved
medieval village.
You will find many opportunities for wine tasting, chateaux to visit
and gastronomic meals to enjoy.

You

A
day to acclimatise and cover some easy miles. You travel
north along quiet lanes, skirting the edge of the huge
Bresse plain. The route passes through pretty countryside,
past small towns and villages. No hills today and a flat
cycle across the flood plains of the Saône to your
3 star hotel in Verdun.
A
day-trip to Beaune and Nuits St Georges, two of Burgundy's
most prestigious wine-producing towns. The woods and pasture
give way to vines and tourism as you approach Beaune.
Make sure you visit Beaune's Hôtel de Dieu with
its colourful tiled roof before the peaceful return cycle
to Verdun..
Some
chances for wine tasting today. Cycle through some of
the most celebrated wine-producing areas in the world;
Pommard, Meursault and Poligny-Montrachet and then to
the Chateau at Rully. Continue through acres of hilly
vineyards to Givry and along the Voie Verte back to a
gourmet evening meal in Buxy.
A
challenging day, if you feel like it, across the tightly-packed
hills to medieval Nolay and the impressive Château
at le Rochepot. Return along tiny back lanes to St Denis
de Vaux with its commanding views of the surrounding countryside
before the descent to Buxy. A chance to find the real
Burgundy by bike, far from the tourists in Beaune..
