Beyond the Vineyards

If you want a shorter excursion, we offer six night holidays. This holiday offers the taste of Burgundy that you will come to know intimately during your stay.
It covers a circuit from the Saône river in the east to the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise in the west. As you cycle along your route, there are many opportunities for wine tasting, chateaux to visit and gastronomic meals to enjoy.

Day 1: Arrive at Tournus
You will be met at the railway station by our representative who will take you to our base hotel. Tournus is built on the banks of the Saône river with attractive riverside quay and narrow streets to explore.

Day 2: Tournus - Buxy
34 kms
Start the day cycling along the banks of the Saône river before heading cross-country through forests and farmland. The countryside gradually changes as you cycle from the flood plains of the Saône river to the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards in the west.
Day 3: Buxy
Buxy is a bustling small town with plenty to see and do. Visit the Museum of Winemaking or cycle to Mercurey for lunch at the highly rated restaurant.

Day 4: Buxy - Cormatin
21 kms
The traffic-free Voie Verte (a disused railway line) can make this an easy day. Take a detour for lunch to the picturesque medieval town of St Gengoux Le National with its priory, ancient walls and castle.

Day 5: Cormatin
Down the Voie Verte to Cluny, with its famous abbey founded in 910. All that remains today are impressive fragments, which give clues to the original grandeur of the buildings.
On your return journey, visit the medieval fortress of Berzé le Chatel. The Bicycle Museum has a fascinating collection of unique bicycles. Don’t miss the imposing 17th century Chateau of Cormatin.

Day 6: Cormatin - Tournus
26 kms
Cycle through mixed woodland and pasture to the fortified village of Brancion and its 10th century chateau. There is a good restaurant in Brancion if you want to make a longer stop in the village on your last day of cycling.

Day 7: Leave for Home
After breakfast, our representative will take you to the railway station for your journey home.
