Through the Vineyards

Excellent walking in the world’s most famous vineyards.
Contrast the dusty paths through vineyards with the grassy tracks and green meadows elsewhere. The routes meander around the sheltered hills over undulating terrain. Visit the chateaux and churches in towns and tiny villages along the way.

Day 1: Arrive at Chagny
On arrival at the railway station our representative will take you to your hotel.

Day 2: Chagny – Nolay
17 kms
Watch the boats go by as you walk along the canal towpath then climb to the Troix Croix for spectacular views across Burgundy. Continue over undulating terrain through vineyards, woodland and small villages into Nolay.
Day 3: Nolay
A circular walk in tranquil countryside to the flat, grassy summit of Mont de Rème, with views over this unspoiled corner of Burgundy. A day on wide grassy paths and heathland then down to the river and refreshments in Change.

Day 4: Nolay – La Rochepot
18 kms
Enjoy superb views and contrasts as the path follows the cliff edge and sometimes darts into woodland. See the caves and a curious waterfall at the Cirque du Bout de Monde.

Day 5: La Rochepot
Starting on narrow lanes then rocky paths through dense woodland, the day soon becomes a walk on the heathland, meadows and cliff top paths around St Romain. The reward for the uphill walk is found in the views from the sheer cliffs.

Day 6: La Rochepot – Meursault
14 kms
Climb through vineyards and then cool woodland to Roche Dumay for spectacular views. Notice the labelled wild flowers as you pass a short stretch of a “sentier botanique”. Arrive in time for a tour of Meursault Château, including wine tasting.

Day 7: Meursault - Beaune
10 kms
A shorter walk today, with vineyards stretching out across the wide valleys. Stop in Pommard for a tour of the impressive Château. Continue on through the vines to Beaune.

Day 8 Beaune (optional)*
Visit the Hospice de Beaune, famous for its colourful tiled roof, not visible from the outside to avoid upsetting the poor. There will still be time to browse the shops and wine merchants for souvenirs of your holiday.
* This itinerary outlines an optional 8th night in Beaune, which allows time for a full day in town. Otherwise, with the 7 night option, leave for home on day 8.

Day 8 or 9: Leave for Home
After breakfast, our representative will take you to the railway station for your journey home. Car drivers travel back to Chagny to reclaim their cars.
