tips for happy holidays
Prepare
for your holiday
If you haven't been out cycling for a while, you will need
to get your body re-acquainted with your bicycle so try to
go out at least a couple of times a week in the few weeks
before the holiday.

Plan
your day
In
can be quite hot in the middle of the day, especially in July
and August. At these times of year it is more pleasant to
start a bit earlier in the morning and cover some distance
before it gets too hot. You will then enjoy taking a longer
lunchtime rest in the shade before setting off again as the
day cools down later in the afternoon. After all, you have
got all day to get to where you are going so theres
no rush.
Weather
protection
High factor sun block, sun hats and sunglasses are advisable.
As are good waterproofs, just in case.
Take
plenty of water
You will need to drink plenty of water to maintain your peak
efficiency. Keep drinking throughout the day to avoid dehydration.
What
you need for cycling holidays:
Padded shorts
There are various types of padded shorts and underwear on
the market. Any good bicycle shop will have a selection of
styles. Stretch lycra cycling shorts, as worn by the professionals,
do not suit everyone but are very good at the job.
Gloves
Cycling gloves are really a necessity on a cycling holiday
to give good grip and prevent sore hands.
Cycle
helmets
We recommend the use of proper cycling helmets. However, we
realise that not everyone likes to use a helmet and we leave
it for you to decide whether you use one or not. We do not
offer helmets for hire, as it is not possible to determine
the safety of a previously used helmet.
