tips for happy holidays
Prepare
for your holiday
If you haven't been out walking for a while, you will need
to get your body re-acquainted with your boots so try to go
out at least a couple of times a week in the few weeks before
your holiday.

Plan
your day
In
can be quite hot in the middle of the day, especially in July
and August. At these times of year it is more pleasant to
start a bit earlier in the morning and cover some distance
before it gets too hot. You will then enjoy taking a longer
lunchtime rest in the shade before setting off again as the
day cools down later in the afternoon. After all, you have
got all day to get to where you are going so theres
no rush.
Weather
protection
High factor sun block, sun hats and sunglasses are advisable.
As are good waterproofs, just in case.
Take
plenty of water
You will need to drink plenty of water to maintain your peak
efficiency. Keep drinking throughout the day to avoid dehydration.
What
you need for walking holidays
Boots
You will need walking boots or stout shoes that you know will
be comfortable all day. Specialist walking socks made from
high performance fabrics are available from walking shops
in the UK and work very well.
Equipment
A small rucksack with plenty of outside pockets should be
sufficient to carry food, water, a compass, camera and anything
else you might need during the day.
