Jura has warm summers and cold, harsh winters. The summer
temperatures are usually comfortable for walking and cycling
There can be wetter spells when waterproofs will be needed.
The Jura Vineyards, 50 miles east of Beaune, enjoy similar
weather to Burgundy. Summers are warm but showerproof outer
layers are wise on longer day trips if the weather forecast
is changeable.
The climate in the mountainous Mont d'Or region is similar
to that of the French Alps. At high altitude it is usually
fresher with clear skies and sunshine. Take plenty of high
factor sun protection. Thunderstorms and rain are occasional
summer visitors which can lower the cloud levels and, if
you are unlucky, visibility can become poor on the mountain
peaks.
